Are vegans healthier than meat eaters?

Our eating habits are a crucial component of our lifestyle. People usually pick their food preferences based on taste, nutritional value, their budget, and their social and moral beliefs.  Vegans tend to justify their diet according to the environmental impact that meat-eating has or the belief that veganism is healthier. Social issues aside, my focus will be on the nutritional aspect of veganism vs omnivorism.   What is a vegan?  A vegan mainly eats plant-based food and omits meat and all animal products e.g milk, cheese, and eggs from their diet.  What is an omnivore?  An omnivore eats an assortment of foods of both plant and animal origin.  Pros of veganism 1. Prevention of certain life-threatening diseases. Statistically, vegans are at less risk of severe diseases such as heart disease and type 2 diabetes. This is because vegan food contains less saturated fat. 2. Weight loss. This is also due to the fact that less saturated fat is consumed while ...

Bringing The Café Experience Home

I love cafés! I love the rich aroma of coffee beans, the sweet scent of freshly baked desserts, the sound of the barista concocting hot drinks, the soothing jazz music playing in the background, and the overall cozy atmosphere.

I'm a lazy cook. I like to do the bare minimum but achieve gourmet results. Therefore, I am always researching cooking hacks. You can imagine my excitement when I found out that you can make mouth-watering bread rolls with just two ingredients! Well actually, I used 3. I added baking powder because I wanted my buns to be bigger, but if you exclude the baking powder, your bread rolls will be smaller but just as delicious!

So here is a simple bread recipe:

Ingredients

  1. 1 cup flour
  2. 1 cup yoghurt ( any yoghurt will do if you want a low-sugar option you can use natural or Greek yoghurt, if you prefer a little sweetness, sweetened yoghurt will be just fine).
  3. 1 and a half teaspoons baking powder (optional).

Baking Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven (180°C).

  2. Sieve the flour and baking powder into a bowl and add the yoghurt.

  3. Mix thoroughly

  4. Cover a board with flour and put some flour on your hands to prevent the dough from sticking onto your hand.

  5. Knead the dough on the board for about 3 mins.

  6. Cut the dough into your desired shape(s)
  7. Glaze the top of the bread roll with a raw beaten egg( this is optional, this will create a beautiful golden brown crust when baked).

  8. Grease a baking tray.
  9. Place kneaded bread dough on the greased tray
  10. Bake in a hot oven for about 30 minutes, until golden brown.

Of course, there is still one key element missing from this café experience...coffee

Here is an easy cappuccino recipe:

  1. Whisk 2 teaspoons of coffee, 2 teaspoons of sugar, and about 1 tablespoon of milk or water until thick and creamy. I whisked with my hands so arms eventually caved in, hence why my cream is not very thick.

  2. Place whisked mixture over a cup of warm milk or coffee and enjoy!
